The Akron Cycling Festival
August 21, 2010
"The Akron Cycling Festival is about one simple, single step that could change the nature of our society - abandoning our automobiles and cycling instead."
The Festival is about exploring the vast resources available right outside our front doorstep and exploring the bike friendly City of Akron. It's about mapping out a family friendly route on the famous Tow Path Trail. Biking the blue line - a 25 mile scenic course through Akron and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. It's about group rides on the Tow Path Trail and boarding the train on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad for your return to the Northside. It's about hearing the sights and sounds of short course criterium racing. It's about participating on the way to your finish line and being a spectator cheering others on to their destination. It's about finishing off the day with the culture of the Akron Art Walk. It's about the cultural center of the Northside - the Heart of the Akron Cycling Festival.
The Akron Cycling Festival is a way to showcase two of Akron's great assets: strong neighborhoods and a energized bicycling community. We hope to continue to increase community awareness not only on the importance of walking and biking but also the convenience and high quality of life you can enjoy in the beautiful neighborhoods near downtown Akron.

ART WALK
Bike, walk, or ride the free trolley from location to location, to check out the galleries and eateries. Akron's Northside district boasts 23 individual artists, gallery spaces and live music venues. The participating spaces change every month, as do the exhibitions, food, entertainment and people within them. Each month is a unique experience and a wonderful opportunity to meet the artists that make downtown a culturally and artistically vibrant community. Trolley maps and event guides are available at participating galleries throughout the footprint that list walk highlights, specials events and hours of operation, between 5 and 10 pm.
The City of Akron free trolley service circulates the ArtWalk route, allowing for an enjoyable ride from destination to destination. Many ArtWalk patrons make a night out of their visit to downtown by enjoying a dinner at Chrissie Hynde's Vegiterranean, Luigi's or Northside as they peruse the gallery spaces on the walk.
